WITH Ireland in the glare of the international media spotlight last month as its EU presidency ended, one young filmmaker has decided to settle that unique Irish rivalry – Barry’s versus Lyons – with the country’s politicians.
Under the Youth Media and the Irish Presidency initiative, Laura Gaynor used her press access to ask Taoiseach Enda Kenny and others which brand of tea they preferred.
And she also asked voters if knowing which brand of tea your local politician drank would affect who you voted for?
Gaynor said that she observed of international attendees at the EU presidency events that “apart from noticing our rain, a lot of these people were noticing our tea addiction.
“At any of these Presidency events you were never more than ten metres away from a tea kiosk”.
In response to her question, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: “If I drink tea I drink Barry’s” he said. However he added: “My preference is for Rooibus tea”.
Ireland’s six-month tenure of the rotating EU presidency ended at the end of last month.
